We weren't fast

Postby Mark » Mon Aug 11, 2014 7:48 pm

But we had fun.
Nick wanted to take his street car he just got[mustang convertable] up to the track just to see what it would do. Ran it in trophy class just for fun. Ran a 16.80 at 82 mph not bad for a bone stock v 6.5 speed car. He is already talking about mods. Exaust and headers are # 1 . Won 2 rounds had a 38 light and a 35 light but went red after dark. Had a blast, was good to be at the track with my son.

It doesn't matter how fast you are. Just as long as you're having fun!

Mark I know you guys had a blast. Now maybe you guys will be able to dust the other Mustang off and get it to the track a little.

It's 9:10am I am early smiley-oops Don't want to hijack Mark's thread, but we had successful night. Got out to the track later than we intended, just wanted to get Jonathan used to handling the car, I guess I am over cautious but I always take these things slow. Wanted to get him used to driving the car around, do some burnouts and shorts squirts, I rather do our fill lic passes on a race day when the track is prepped better. Anyway below is a quick video of one of his squirts, getting kinda late and humid in this one , he backed out just a little out of the groove and double stepped at the hit when the car jutted right a little. All in all a good day had fun being with Amy and the boys. Also Jonathan's girlfriend Chloe and her mother Karen joined us. Had a ball.

P.S. Ron check out Jules T-shirt and see if you recognize it. :)

Lets try this again. this should work. We are planning on being back out there this Saturday if the weather continues to hold. I much rather run some test/lic passes during the daylight hours when the track has good heat and the humidity doesn't form a dew cloud on the car. smiley-duh In our initial test squirts Jonathan has been lifting his foot at the hit. I remember when we brought Jules's to Hawley's class Frank said this was a natural reaction a lot of folks have and you have to train yourself to press harder on the gas at the hit to fight that urge to lift a little. We'll see how things go.

Looked good and sounded good. You are so right,I can tell you first hand that your first instinct it to take your foot off the throttle. You have to make yourself stay in it.I used to lock my leg down and force myself to lock up my knee so I would not lift. I liked the jr dragster plus tee shirt. That is vintage and I still have one I save for special days.LOL,

What is the annoying popping sound in the video, is the camera picking something else up, surely that's not the headers popping is it?

It looks like the car rolls a little when it comes up off the SLE, or when he matts the throttle? Looks pretty noticeable, have you tried to do anything with that yet?

Steve, I suspect that is some kind of feedback on the cell phone camera. I didn't notice any weird popping when we were at the track. As for the nudge forward when on the line I noticed that and talked to my son. I was wondering if he was a little off in getting off the brake and on the transbrake button. Will keep and eye on that too, maybe a band adjustment? Thanks for the input.

Very cool! I could almost smell the tire smoke and the cigar. I really do miss driving my dragster, just don't miss the work.Looks like he has it figured out.Turn him loose he will be fine. Picked up a nice 27 foot tag along rv last week and plan on spending some of my retirement time traveling. You are on my list for an over due repeat visit. The mississippi and alabama gulf coast is on my list and we will swing by when we are down there. Gonna get a drink at the flora-bama bar, and toss a mullett.
