4 wide nationals

Postby jeffrey10x2 » Mon Mar 22, 2010 7:42 pm

does anyone know how they are gonna run the 4 wide nationals?

if they run it 4 wide, that would only be 2 rounds.
16 start first round and the 4 winners go to the finals.

sounds like it will be the shortest race ever.

ok thanks,
i found it on line after i posted it,
3 rounds total instead of 4
1 and 2 from each pass will move on. then 1 and 2 from each pass in the 2nd round will go to the finals.

Jeff, I have pretty much given up watching nhra pro racing, Between the lousey espn time frame , the pre empting, the favoratism to the big money teams , and last but not least Paul Page I quit watching, and that is from a long time drag racing fan. Wonder how the non racing fans see it? Bet they Don't even know it is on tv.
A misplaced parrothead who spent all his money on Drag Racing ,rum, and good cigars......
The rest I just wasted.

NHRA

Postby Racer Pops » Tue Mar 23, 2010 2:00 pm

Sounds like every else is about as UNexcited about the 4-wide crap as I am! At least they will get it over quicker so we don't have to listen to John Force and crew ranting.

Between AlAnabi buying pretty much everything in sight, and now putting a child under a lifetime contract as a p.r. move(can you say slavery?), and after the Force farce last year, I have pretty much stopped paying much attention to anything but Pro Stock!

I saw where they made Pro Mod a "professional category" for 2010 but did not cover it. What is THAT all about?

The entire NHRA thing sort of reminds me of a bunch of coporate "yes men" throwing a bunch of stuff on the wall, just hoping that something will stick!! Bruton Smith needs to wait til the ship sinks so he can purchase the NHRA for a lot less than he offered a few back...

My daughter and I were there last year when they did it as an exhibition and it was not what it is cracked up to be. The burnouts were cool but when they left the line it was almost too much going on and the noise was just stupid. Don't get me wrong I have been around those cars for along time but the 4 wide was not that great. I really don't see how it is going to work. I am thinking it is going to be a once and done kinda thing. Might be wrong though.

Maybe that will leave extra time to show the final rounds of each of the sportsman classes....not.
I should bend Dave Rieff's ear, although I know he is the producer. He lives 6 blocks south of me here in Omaha.

I am with you guys. Not sure that this 4-wide thing is good or not but one thing is for sure we will see the best of Paul Page. He will be stumbling all over himself. I have followed NHRA a long time and can remember when you hoped Force would win because it was fun listening to him in the interview. Well, I know he is a good ambasitor for the sport but enough is enough. there are other teams and drivers. My son works on Jack Beckmans funny car and when they roll up to the start line I hope they are not lined up with a Force car so hopefully we can see him. Yup we are glued to the tube and hope Mike Dunn does most of the talking.

I like Jack Beckman. Met him at VMP last year. He came over to our trailer and we had a very good conversation. Four wide is not something that gets me excited.

I could care less about four wide racing. Still love to watch any drag racing. Not for the interviews I am just in awe at the engineering behind what goes on in a TF car. I like the Lucas oil sportsman racing. The Pro Mod racing last weekend was pretty cool too.

Dare I say it...but I would much rather watch F1 than anything else these days. I am a fan of any mechanical engineering system that pushes the envelope, F1, submarines, TF dragsters, Space shuttle, you name it.

i agree, todays engineering is amazing. From technics to material, its all its all unbelievable what todays technology can do. I personally have not talked with Beckman as this is my sons first year on that team. He has worked on Cruz Pedregons car for the last 5 years. It was exciting in 2008 when they won the championship. Had lots of talks with Cruz. Nice guy and treated my son well. Thats all you can ask for. He went to Beckmans car with Rahn Tobler(another really nice guy) and working his way up the ladder. If you think ESPN have a lot of replays with 2 cars, this weekend will be interesting. I am curious on how it will all work out but I am with you Pool Man 4wide doesnot excite me in the least bit

Well one good thing is there is only 1 4wide track........for now. Last I herd Smith was widening Las Vegas to 4 lanes. I think I can swallow 2 4wide races a year. I think I will keep an open mind.........for now until sunday is over. Just trying to stay as positive as I can guys. Like the old Beach Boys song "be true to your school" just put me out if i go down in flames..........Beckman runs a 4.04....NICE

4 wide is a big joke ...... it would probably be OK for pinks with 400 plus entries , but for 16 car PRO field it is a complete joke ....

I agree Drags. It certainly doesnt sound good if thats all you have are 16 cars. Talked to my son last night and he not sure if he is sold on it but he said it sure was intense at the start line with 4 cars at once.i agree with all you guys my first thought after listening on the internet, IT SUCKS, buuuuut I am going try to be the positive one and keep an open mind untill sunday is over.
